About Shardabai Pawar Mahila Arts, Commerce and Science College
Established in 1991, Shardabai Pawar Mahila Arts, Commerce and Science College, Baramati is a UGC-recognized college for women which is affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and is under the management of the Agricultural Development Trust, Baramati. One of the unique programs at this college is to give the women preparatory training to appear for police recruitment opportunities. The girls can join the NSS and NCC units, and participate in activities of various clubs. A placement cell provides guidance for a career ahead, and there are spoken English classes and programs for the development of soft skills. The college has not only received NAAC Re-Accredited status of 'A' Grade, but also a number of accolades, including the best college award from SPPU in 2016.
Academic programs The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams. There are also interesting vocational courses, such as in agribusiness management, drama and theatre, etc. Diploma and Certificate courses are also offered. Some of the courses are taught in the Marathi medium. The exam paper pattern for students of the junior college is as per the directives of the Maharashtra State Secondary Board, Pune, while for the students of the senior college it is as per the directives of SPPU.
Campus infrastructure and facilities The Wi-Fi-enabled campus has CCTV coverage at strategic locations for safety and security, including at the well-furnished hostels. There is an amazing library on campus, covering three floors! There are reading halls on all the floors, which students can use right from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. There are plenty of books, journals, and reference material available for teachers and students with free internet facilities. Access to an e-library is also available, as also a book bank. Book exhibitions are scheduled from time to time. Other infrastructure includes a canteen, labs, a 400m athletic track, and sports facilities.
Admission procedure Students are given admission strictly as per the guidelines of the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune and as per the norms of the State Government, of Maharashtra on the basis of marks of the previous qualifying exam. Students are required to fill up the relevant application form for admission within the schedule given, and late applications are not accepted. Parents and students are advised to go through the prospectus that is available at the official website, and can also make inquiries about scholarships and fees by contacting the college office.
