About CIFECentral Institute of Fisheries Education founded on 6 June 1961 and is completely dedicated for the field of fisheries and aquaculture. After some years, it got supported by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India and then included under the category of Indian Council of Agricultural Research in 1979.
The institute offers post graduate academic programs related to fisheries science. It also offers research opportunities to the deserving candidates.
FacilitiesCIFE being a government institution is quite rich in resources and have almost all advanced facilities required for studying candidates.
Laboratories It has 9 different labs named as below-
- Hatchery/ Nursery for Ornamental Fish and Giant Freshwater Prawn
- Fish / Molluscan Biology and Taxonomy Lab
- Biotechnology and Molecular Genetics Lab
- Biochemistry, Nutrition and Feed Formulation Lab
- Disease Diagnostics and Cell Culture Lab
- Fish Processing and Quality Control Lab
- Bioinformatics Lab
- Algal Taxonomy and Culture Lab
- Electron Microscopy Facility
All of these laboratories have in built advanced infrastructure which support excellent learning.
Library : CIFE campus has “National Library for Fisheries and Allied Sciences" which is very rich in literature for research and reading. It has classic collection of journals, magazines and also offers access for online database. It also have Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) which gives details of all available publications.
The library also has one digital section containing around 30 computers. These computers are having internet facility and connected through LAN with each other.
Accommodation : CIFE has it's own accommodation facility for students and faculty. Their International Guest house and normal guest house have internet facility and all other required faculties. The charges and booking application forms are available on their websites.
Sports facility : CIFE offers facilities for sports related activities. These includes facility for Gymnasium, space for Volley Ball, Cricket, Badminton and Table Tennis. Their accommodations have some musical instruments available for interested candidates.
Other miscellaneous facilities: Apart form all these basic facilities, it also have a museum which is having great collection of collection of a large variety of finfish and shellfish.
Some other aquatic animals are also managed in this facility.
If we talk about learning facilitates, they have modern audio-visual aids and have 24X7 broadband connectivity. They have conference hall and Auditorium with all modern equipment facilitating regular conferences and presentations.
