First college that offered commerce education in Karwar Divekar College of Commerce was founded in the year 1970 by Kanara Welfare Trust with the mission to provide education to needy students. It was the first college in Karwar which offered commerce education. This College was named after a great philanthropist, Dr. M. R. Divekar.
This college gave me excellent education for 5 years. I completed my B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce) in this college with good marks. The principal and teachers were all friendly and knowledgeable. This college has all infrastructural facilities and qualified staff too. This college is located just in front of Karwar beach. We all used to enjoy the cool breeze from the beach.
During my time, there was only one course i.e. B.com. From the year 2014-2015, due to the demand by the students and the public of Karwar, M.Com (Master of Commerce) and Bachelor of Computer Application (B.C.A) was also offered with the students coming from distance places.
It has a canteen, which did not have seating arrangement. I never tried any food in canteen, but I was told they served tasty food and snacks.
It has a library having its own rules. All books, journals, encyclopedia, dictionaries, & CD/DVD materials are available in this library. It is open from 8 am to 5.30 pm.
There is a computer lab provided with good lecturers. An auditorium room called as Gymkhana hall, for girls and boys separately. It has a big play ground surrounded by coconut tress.
Overall, our college was good, but it can still be improved.
