About Sarada Vilas College, Mysuru
Sarada Vilas College, Mysuru has a rich legacy. It was started in 1945, a few years before Indian independence by the Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions, an educational group that started its journey in the field of education as early as 1861. It is worth noting that the Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions were established under the direction of the then Maharaja of Mysore, His Highness Mummadi Sri. Krishnaraja Wodeyar. The first such educational institution by the group was the Sarada Vilas Anglo-Sanskrit School. In 1945, when Sarada Vilas College was set up, it was an intermediate college. In 1952 it got upgraded into an undergraduate college when it started offering Bachelor of Science courses. In later years, the college started offering B.Com, BBA, various combinations of B.Sc, PG Diploma and vocational degree courses. The college is affiliated to University of Mysore.
Infrastructure
The college has usual facilities like a library, laboratories and lecture halls. The books at the library are barcoded for easy management and identification. There are facilities like playground, outdoor and indoor sports, multigym and space for performing various cultural activities. There is an audiovisual centre - a furnished hall for conducting various co-curricular activities. CCTV cameras and manual security take care of the security aspects.
The college organises numerous industrial visits to nearby industry units that provide a hands-on experience to the students. It has various committees that look into affairs like sports, cultural activities, ragging, placement assistance, exams, literary activities, prevention of harassment of women, discipline and many others. Apart from NSS, the college has facilities for students to take part in the Army and Naval Wing of the NCC. The maintenance of the campus and the washrooms are outsourced to external agencies. As such the campus has a very neat appearance.
Admissions
For admissions at Sarada Vilas College, the students should have passed the pre-university or equivalent 10+2 exam. The application form is to be deposited at the college office as and when a notification is released to this effect. Some of the documents that are to be deposited along with the application form are given below. Photocopies of the documents are to be submitted along with the originals.
- Class 10 and 10+2 marks memos
- Transfer certificate
- Migration certificate for non-Karnataka students
- Income and caste certificates for special category candidates
- Aadhaar card photocopy
- Bank passbook photocopy
- Three sets of passport sized photographs and a self-addressed envelope
