About Mercy College
Mercy College Palakkad is a well reputed women's Arts & Science College in Kerala affiliated to University of Kerala and Accredited by the National Assessment and Accrediation Council (NAAC) at A grade. Mercy College Palakkad was established in the year 1964 by Blessed Chavara Elias and the Carmelite Missionary Fr. Leopold Beccardo.
Mercy College was started in 1964 in Palakkad and is affiliated to the University of Calicut. It is a womens college offering graduate and postgraduate courses and the management is looked after by the Carmelite sisters of Jai Christo CMC Education Agency, following the rules and regulations of the CMC congregation. In 2014, it got re-accredited by NAAC with “A" Grade and secured 48th rank at the national level and 6th rank in the state-level NIRF in 2017.
Infrastructure and facilities The campus is having Wi-Fi connectivity and the digital learning-enabled departments with projectors, computers, etc are there for advanced learning. There are around 60 classrooms, a library stocked with more than 61000 books and lots of other reading matter like journals, reference books and textbooks.
The computer lab is equipped with 60 computers and internet facility. All the departments are connected with each other with the help of intercoms and the seminar hall is also equipped with advanced digital equipment required for teaching and presentations. Other labs specific for each subject are also well developed and are equipped with all the required equipment. It includes the molecular biology lab, tissue culture lab, herbarium, greenhouse and heritage museum.
The campus is also having an auditorium with a sitting capacity of around 2000. Apart from all these basic facilities, one can also find non-residential rooms, public telephone booths, a photo processing unit, a canteen along with a coffee corner and an ice-cream corner and 2 hostels.
To manage sports activities, the college is having 5 acres of land for sports centers, including badminton courts and tracks.
The college also has a health care center offering medical support by providing first aid and emergency care.
Extracurricular activities Apart from academics and sports, the college conducts various extracurricular activities and has formed different clubs depending upon the interest of the students. These clubs include nature club, campus green club, camera club, debate club, cine forum club, tourism club, ED club, etc. All these clubs are working in their specific area like the cine forum conducts workshops on film making, lectures by speakers from film making industries and many other related activities.
