About Indian Institute of Technology
Indian Institute of Technology is the oldest technical government institute situated in Roorkee, Uttrakhand. It was established in the year 1847. It is a very old institution but it was converted to IIT status only in the year 2001. So, as of today, it is one of the seven IITs in our country. The institute offers UG technical courses such as information technology, computer science & engineering, electrical & electronics engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering. It also offers a post-graduate program Master of Business Administration(MBA). It is affiliated with the Indian Institute of Technology and approved by AICTE, New Delhi. The institute has finished the 150th year of its existence in October 1996. The institute conducts the JMET exam to take admission in MBA and in other available streams. The institute has played a crucial role in providing quality education and technical manpower. The institute positioned amongst the best technological institutions in the world and has afforded all sectors of technological development.
- (A) For UG Courses:
The admissions to UG courses of IITs (including IIT-Roorkee) are done through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). After the result of JEE is out there is one process of counseling for allotment of seats in the engineering institutions in the country. This is carried out by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). During this counseling, the candidates who get good scores in JEE may get admission to the IITs or some other engineering colleges in the country. Now those who are qualified in this way and desirous of taking admission in IIT-Roorkee have to deposit the admission fee online by going to the link provided on the IIT-Roorkee website. While paying the fee they have to mention their roll number in JEE (Adv.). Once they deposit the fees, they will be given IITR email ID and enrolment number with which they will have to log in to the website for admission registration. Once they complete login into the site their personal details would automatically come there and they have only to fill some of the remaining blank fields.
Candidates are required to keep ready the following documents for online admission-registration:
The institution has also got a facility for a special 5 years integrated M.Tech./M. Sc. course for which the admission takes place from JEE (Adv.) route only in the same way as mentioned above.
- Soft copy of colour photograph (only in JPEG) size up to 500 KB.
- Soft copy of signature (only in JPEG) size up to 500 KB.
- EWS/OBC/SC/ST/PD Category Certificate (PDF) (If applicable) size up to 5 MB.
- 10th Certificate/Marksheet (in single PDF) size up to 5 MB.
- 12th certificate Marksheet (In single PDF) size up to 5 MB.
- Undertaking for later submission of required original as per the format provided in site (in single PDF) size up to 5 MB.
- (B) For PG Courses:
The eligible candidates (completed their B.Tech./B.E. or are in the final year of engineering) can apply for it by doing online registration in the IIT-Roorkee website and have to upload the following documents in it -
- Valid GATE score card.
- 10th Marksheet / Certificate.
- UG Marksheet / Degree/ Provisional degree.
- For candidates studying in final year of qualifying exam a certificate from the institution.
- Category certificate (SC / ST / EWS / OBC / OBC-NC), if applicable.
- Copy of Aadhar card (optional).
The institution will release the list of selected candidates out of the eligible ones and if the offered seat is accepted by them then they have to deposit the fees immediately.
FacilitiesThe institute has a good hostel facility and in total there are 10 boys hostels, 3 girls hostels, and 6 married hostels in the campus. Each hostel is having Wi-Fi connectivity, cyber cafe, canteen etc.
There is a good sports facility in the institute and apart from normal sports, many others like Rowing, Swimming, Tennis, Squash, etc are also available.
For extracurricular activities, the institute has many student clubs in various activity areas like Photography, Fine arts, Star gazing, Cultural council, Drama and theatre, Cinema/Film production, etc. These make the student life much interesting and provides them an outlet for pursuing their hobbies. These clubs are run by the students themselves.
Apart from this other engagements like NCC, NSS, etc are also there where students can have proficiencies in these activities and attain the respective certifications which give them an edge in pursuing a career in defense services or social organizations.
