About Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital
Overview Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital was established in the South Campus of Punjab University in the year 2006 with philanthropic donations from Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge. Within a very short period of time, the Institute has been able to secure its name among the top 5 Dental Institutes in the region of Punjab. The Institute aims at providing excellent and cheapest oral health care facilities to the general public, especially the poor in addition to undergraduate and postgraduate training to students.
The Campus The lush green campus has the best possible infrastructure available to cater to the needs of approx. 500 patients daily and additionally promote research and imparting knowledge to a large number of students. This Institute encompasses a total of 18 departments (9 dental and 9 medical) with 8 clinical and 11 pre-clinical and para-clinical laboratories, a fully equipped diagnostic lab, a library and a 100 bedded hospital. The Institute is duly approved by Dental Council of India/Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and is developing at a fast rate to offer the best possible education as well as medical facilities to the public.
The Courses Currently, the institute offers two courses, one graduate course and one post graduation course. Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a five-year course offered by the institute with an annual fee of Rs 1,18,532/- per annum. It has 85+15 NRI seats. A candidate wishing to take admission in this course must have passed Class 12th exams (medical stream) with a minimum aggregate of 50% for general candidates and 40% minimum marks for SC/ST. Admissions to this course are conducted on the basis of the rank achieved in the NEET entrance exam.
Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) is the second course offered by the institute with an annual fee of Rs 4,48,327/- per annum. This 3 year course currently has the following seat distribution:
- Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics: 3
- Prosthodontics & Crown & Bridge: 3
- Periodontology: 3
- Oral Pathology & Microbiology: 3
- Conservative & Endodontics: 3
- Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery: 2
M.D.S is a recent course, so the number of seats offered are less. Any candidate who wants to take admission in this course must have a BDS Degree from a recognized Dental Institute. Admissions to this college are conducted on the basis of the NEET (MDS) entrance exam.
Placements Most of the students join government and private hospitals. Some of the students go for higher studies in foreign universities and some of them open their own clinics.
