About Gitam School of Technology, Bengaluru
GITAM School of Technology is part of the Bengaluru campus of GITAM University. GITAM, which stands for Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, is a Category-1 Deemed to be University recognized by the UGC. Established in 2012, GITAM has partnered with various foreign universities, some of the noted ones being Stanford, Lancaster, University of Texas, and a few more. Like its other campuses at Vishakhapatnam and Hyderabad, GITAM provides here the best and most modern infrastructure. The peaceful and serene campus is a sprawling one located on the outskirts of Bangalore city in Nagadenahalli. The campus is quite close to the International Airport and the nearest railway station is 3.5 km away at Doddaballapur, with the IT hub not too far away. Apart from the GITAM School of Technology, there is the GITAM School of Business and GITAM School of Science also located within the same campus.
Academics GITAM School of Technology provides a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as research-based programs, with all the courses approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The five departments of the college are of Computer Science, EEC, Civil, Mechanical and English. Courses in Computer Science and Engineering have different specializations like the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Mchine Learning, Cyber Security, Data Science and Business Systems. The M.Tech programs mainly specialize in Data Sciences, VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, Cyber Forensics and Information Security.
Infrastructure facilities Smart classrooms, a spacious central library, laboratories equipped with the latest equipment, seminar halls, auditorium and a playground are some of the campus facilities at GITAM School of Technology. There are various extra-curricular and co-curricular activities like sports and cultural events that are part and parcel of the academic curriculum. There are college fests, inter-college events and competitions at regular intervals. Important days like Fresher's Day, Ethnic Day, Women's Day, Engineer's Day, National Science Day, and National Mathematics Day are celebrated on the campus. A number of clubs and activity centres are there like a cultural club, literary club, social activity club, GITAM University Science and Activity Centre, etc.
GITAM organizes inter-collegiate meets, where students from the neighbouring Pre-University colleges are invited and made aware of the career opportunities in the field of science and engineering and the scope for higher studies at GITAM. The prospective students thus get to witness the facilities and infrastructure available at the GITAM campus for all its programs.
There are separate hostels for boys and girls. Those students who do not reside in the hostels can avail of bus facilities provided by GITAM for which there are different routes and almost the entire city is covered by the service. The hostels have a number of facilities like three meals a day, evening snacks, pure drinking water, Wi-Fi connectivity, indoor games, leisure activities and round the clock power supply. There are wardens as well as security staff to look after the needs of the hostel inmates and to provide them with a secured environment. Doctors are also available on call in case of emergencies.
Admissions Admissions at GITAM School of Technology is through its in-house GITAM Admission Test (GAT). The test is an online one and, based on the rankings obtained by the students, the courses are allotted. The application process can be done online as well as offline. A fee of Rs. 800 is to be paid as a registration fee for appearing for GAT. The fees can be paid either through online channels or through a demand draft.
The exam is a multiple-choice type. For the B.Tech programs, the questions will be on physics, chemistry and maths/biology. For the M.Tech programs, the test will be on quantitative aptitude, reasoning and verbal ability. Both the above tests are of 200 marks with 100 questions in each. GATE qualified candidates can seek direct admission for the M.Tech programs.
