About AJ Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre
The AJK MCRC is widely acknowledged as the premier mass communication institute of its kind in India. Set up in the 1982 by Anwar Jamal Kidwai (then Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islam ia) with support through a collaboration with York university, Toronto, the raison d'' etre of AJK MCRC was not to churn out technicians by the dozen but to train people in media with a sense of social responsibility and expertise. Over the years, its students have carved a niche for themselves in fields as diverse as Photography, electronic journalism, radio, theatre, television and film. Some have become accomplished independent producers and directors. The Centre offers the following courses in media field: 1. M.A. in Mass Communication 2. M.A. in Convergent Journalism 3. P.G. Diploma in Development Communication 4. P.G. Diploma in Broadcast System Maintenance 5. P.G. Diploma in Still Photography 6. P.G. Diploma in Graphics and Animation
(it started functioning in 1983) by Anwar Jamal Kidwai, the then Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. The AJK MCRC was set up in collaboration with York University, Toronto ( Canada) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Under the agreement CIDA gifted MCRC a wide range of sophisticated media equipment for its studios, editing set ups and outdoor production work while York University provided the first generation of teachers.
