About Government Engineering College Barton Hill

Govt. Engineering College, Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram is affiliated with Kerala University. The college was established in 1999 on the land donated by His Highness Sri. Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was the Maharaja of Travancore.

Courses

The college offers B.Tech courses in 5 disciplines and M.Tech courses in 3 disciplines. There are 60 seats for B.Tech courses in each stream and 18 seats for M.Tech courses in each stream. In addition to this, six lateral entry students are allowed per year for the B.Tech course.

B.Tech courses offered are :
1. Information Technology
2. Mechanical Engineering
3. Civil Engineering
4. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
5. Electronics and Communication Engineering

M.Tech courses offered are:
1. M.Tech in Information Technology with specialization in Network Engineering (IT)
2. M.Tech in Electronics and Communication with specialization in Signal Processing(ECE)
3. M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Machine Design (ME)
4. M Tech in Electrical and Electronics with specialization in Power System and Control (EEE)
5. M Tech in Translational Engineering

Admission and Fee

Admission to Govt.Engineering College is based on the Common Entrance examination conducted by Govt. of Kerala.

The college charges an annual fee of Rs. 4000 for the B.Tech course and Rs. 7000 for the M.Tech course.

Facilities

The college houses a computerized library with more than 8000 books and periodicals. There is a strong faculty team of 50 members. The majority of them are from the pool of Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers under the Department of Technical Education. Under the visiting faculty program introduced by the Govt. of Kerala, faculties from various prestigious institutions and experts from industry deliver lectures on different topics.

The campus is situated in the centre of the city. It is around 4 Km from the Thiruvananthapuram railway station. The KSRTC Vikas Bhavan bus stand is the nearest bus station located only half a kilometre away. The college is less than a kilometre from PMG junction and is located beside the Government Law College.

The college started functioning on the grounds of the Barton Hills Girl's School which is now defunct.The college now offers four full time B. Tech. degree courses with annual intake of 60. It is at walking distance from the PMG junction making it one of the most easily accessible colleges in the city.The KSRTC Vikas Bhavan bus stand is the nearest bus station located only half a kilometer away. As a part of the Government's measures to provide quality education to the youth, the college was thoroughly revamped and new building with state-of-the-art classrooms , well equipped labs for Mechanical,Information Technology,Electronics departments and the Ladies Hostel were constructed over the course of the last few years and inaugurated on 16.2.2011.
