About Holy Cross College (Autonomous)
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, is a highly reputed Arts and Science college for women in the State of Tamil Nadu. It is a Catholic institution established in 1923 and has a unique history of academic excellence. Holy Cross College is one of the oldest of colleges for women in South India which was affiliated to Madras University. Currently it is affiliated to Bharathidasan University. The college is administered by the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod, Province of Tiruchirappalli and managed by a Governing Board. In recognition of its service to the cause of women''s education for over six decades, the college was granted autonomous status from June 1987. The college was accredited by NAAC in 1999 with FIVE STARS, and in the year 2005, the college was re-accredited by NAAC with "A" Grade.
OverviewThe latest information available from academic sources indicates that the Social Work department, which conducts the MSW degree course, is now very famous in this part of the country. It has already contributed a large number of professionals who had specialized in Community Development, to the voluntary sector, more so, those aligned to the work of multinational developmental organizations.
The BBA department is also reported to be quite good, as it has resulted in enhanced placements over a period of time. The core department of English has always been a very highly reputed department, of this college.
Since the college is autonomous, it has been reported that this college keeps on updating the syllabus and has achieved a position of strength in terms of branding of this college as a college of choice for girls in the fourth largest city of Tamil Nadu, that is, Tiruchirapalli.
Public PerceptionThe result of this college is good and it is only these colleges that are expected to give a big push to the New Education Policy of the Government of Tamil Nadu, which has announced a very ambitious program of job-oriented courses at all levels in the colleges and even in the senior secondary level (plus two levels) in schools, in line with the New Education Policy, but more in tandem with the developmental needs of Tamil Nadu, in particular. The biggest advantage of this college is its brand. The massive number of teachers with a doctorate degree is a big plus and this adds spice to the standing of the college.
The FutureFrom informed sources, it is learned that the college is already waiting to introduce a series of job-oriented courses, more so, in information technology. The State Government is planning a sharp focus on cloud computing, SAP, Artificial intelligence, and Machine learning.
