About Sankara College of Science and Commerce
Sankara College of Science and Commerce is located at Saravanampatty, some 16 km away from the city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The college is located in the premises of Sankara Educational Institutions, the parent body of Sankara College of Science and Commerce and two other institutions, namely the Sankara Institute of Management Science (SIMS) and Sankara Polytechnic College. The entire campus of Sankara Educational Institutions is a lush green one with more than 30 acres of land.
Established in 1991, the college is affiliated with the Bharathiar University and approved by the AICTE. It offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the science and commerce streams. The science-based courses are mostly on computer science, information technology and catering science. There are a few management, English literature and computer application courses as well. The college also offers M.Phil and PhD courses.
Apart from the regular courses, the college also offers various value-added courses ranging in topics like Tally Programming, Python & PHP Programming, Oracle Database & MYSQL, Data Science & Analytics, Leadership & Life Skills, Vegetable Carving, Bartending & Juggling and so on. These value-added courses are a supplement to the regular courses and are helpful to the students while seeking placements.
There are also some undergraduate and postgraduate courses for special students, i.e. those who are deaf and mute. These courses are in the field of commerce and computer applications.
Infrastructure The campus at Sankara College of Science and Commerce is a most modern one. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. It widely uses digital platforms to enable faster learning of concepts. The academic curriculum includes guest lectures and industry visits by the students. The college has a good understanding with various industrial units that result in a good deal of industrial exposure for the students.
Among the other facilities include airconditioned gallery classrooms for the PG students, an airconditioned computer lab with the latest equipment, hotel management laboratories, sports facilities, hostels and a lot more. Students coming from in and around Coimbatore city can avail transport facilities provided by the college. The college has a well-established placement cell that provides a host of training right from the first year of the college. Among some of the most prominent companies, where the students are placed are Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant, DMart , Vodafone and many others.
Among the clubs and associations at the college are NSS, Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, Fine Arts Club, Women Empowerment Cell and so on.
Admissions To apply for admissions at this college, aspiring students to download the application form from the college website or they may collect it from the college administrative office. At the college office, the application forms are available at the price of Rs 100/-. The forms can be obtained through post also by sending a demand draft of Rs 110/- drawn in favour of the Principal Sankara College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore. The demand draft is to be sent to the Administrative Officer or the Admission Coordinator of the college.
For meritorious students, the college provides them with scholarships. Those scoring above 500 marks in 10+2 are provided with a 100% waiver in tuition fees, whereas others scoring between 450-499 marks are given a 50% tuition fee waiver.
