About Anjuman Khairul Islam's Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce
AKI's Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce started in the year 1970 by Anjuman Khairul Islam's Trust, Mumbai. The aim was to provide education to the poor and needy people in that area. It is accredited by Grade A by NAAC and is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. It also got recognition by the UGC under Section 2(f) and 12(B).
The college is offering various graduate and postgraduate degree courses in different fields including Language, Commerce, Science, Computers, Chemistry and many more. Apart from this, it also offers research-based degrees - M.Phil and Ph.D with specialization in Economics, Commerce and Chemistry. The college also offers all the guidance and support for career planning and emphasizes activities like NCC, NSS and sports.
Library and GymkhanaThe College has a big library with an excellent collection of books on different subjects and streams. It opens at 8.00 am in the morning and students can visit the library till 5.00 pm on all the working days. Saturdays are half days for the library and can be visited till 1.00 pm only. Students need to get an identity card from the library after confirming the admission as without it, they are not allowed to use the library. To borrow the books from the library, one needs to pay the caution money and to get the library card on which the books can be issued. One book at a time can be issued and needs to be returned within 6 days. Books like encyclopaedia, dictionary, atlas, paper sets, etc cannot be issued and students can read or refer them only in the library. The library also has a reading hall where students can sit silently and read the issued books.
A Book Bank is also available for students who cannot afford new academic books. They can get books for the whole academic year. For that, the interested students need to submit an application form with a payment of Rs. 1/- to the Librarian. Applicants also need to attach the Income Certificate of the parents along with the application as this facility is available only for the needy students.
The Gymkhana is a well-set department of the college. Many events and activities are conducted and students can participate voluntarily. The department also participates in different inter-zonal, inter-collegiate and university level sports tournaments every year.
AdmissionsAdmissions are offered on merit basis for some courses and on first cum first serve basis for the rest. For admissions, interested candidates need to register online at the Admissions under the Quick Link section of the website. Once the registration form is submitted successfully, the candidate will receive the Username and Password on the mobile number or email id given in the registration form. These details are needed to proceed further. The Application form is to be filled carefully and take a print out of the same. This print out along with a signed anti-ragging affidavit and eligibility form needs to be submitted at the college admission office. The seat availability, counselling and payment options can be checked with the Admission In-charge of the college. After getting the confirmation, the fee can be paid online or offline and then the Provisional Admission receipt can be collected.
