About AMET University, Kanathur, Chennai
AMET University came into being in the year 1993 and in the year 2007, it became India's first Maritime Deemed to be University for maritime-related education, training and research. It is situated in Kanathur area on the East Coast Road, Chennai in the state of Tamilnadu. They have more than 3000 students in their roles and they conduct various diplomas to doctoral courses in marine-related subjects. They have secured quality compliance certificate ISO 9001:2015 QMS standards from the renowned DNV, Norway. In 2015 they got B grade accreditation from NAAC, an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission. Many students from African countries take training and degree from this institute. Students interested to make a carer in the shipping industry including the merchant navy can plan to apply for admission in the relevant course in this university.
Courses/Programs offeredThey offer a large number of courses under diploma courses, undergraduate courses, postgraduate courses, Ph.D. research projects etc. They also have miscellaneous technical and commercial courses pertaining to the shipping line
Admissions:Students who have done their class XII in the science stream are eligible to apply for the UG courses while graduate students can go for PG courses. Students interested to apply for these courses have to apply online and upload the requisite documents and pay the application fee. An entrance test would be conducted for the relevant category of courses and then based on the merit list admissions would be given.
PlacementThey have networking with many companies for placement. Some of them are Shell, Fleet Ship Management, NYK Ship Management, Dockendale Ship Management, Sembcorp (Singapore) etc.
