About Government Law College
Government Law College was started in the year 1874 as His Highness Maharajas Law College in Ernakulam. At that time, it was the only law college in Kochi. Initially, it was under the High Court of Travancore, then in 1938 it was transferred under Travancore University. As Kerala University started in 1957, it took the college under its fold. Finally, in the year 1983, the law college was shifted under the Mahatma Gandhi University and is currently affiliated to it.
ActivitiesApart from academics, the college also participates in other activities. The NSS (National Service Scheme) was started in the year 1969 and has unit number 22 functional. The Unit is focused on various social activities like awareness campaigning for social issues, e-waste collection, blood donation camps, etc.
The college also has different clubs like nature club, arts club, sports club, placement club, justice club, and film club. All these clubs are having different purposes and students can participate in any of them voluntarily as per their interest.
There is a placement cell in the college that helps the students in getting jobs. Students get proper training, support, and even get to attend meetings with professionals. The college also has an Anti-Ragging cell, Legal Aid Cell, Women's Grievance cell, Anti-Narcotic cell and Criminal law cell.
AdmissionsFor admissions to LL.B. and LL.M. courses, the entrance exams are conducted every year by the Government of Kerala. There are 2 graduation level law courses available in the college, a 3 Year LL.B. degree course and a 5 Year LL.B. degree course.
