Lady Doak College is a premier Christian Institution and the first Women's College in Madurai. It was the brainchild of Ms.Katie Wilcox, an American missionary with a vision and fervor for women empowerment. In 1978, it was commissioned to function as an autonomous college, being affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University.The college, presently, functions as a unit of Katie Wilcox Education Association and stands distinguished as one of the pioneering autonomous colleges in India.
Lady Doak College motto consists of three Latin words: "Semper pro Veritate" - meaning: "Always for the Truth" - II Corinthians 13:8.
It has an enrolment of about 3000 students and has a team of committed staff with 200 teaching faculty of whom 45 are Ph.D. holders and 110 non-teaching staff. The college offers undergraduate courses in 21 disciplines and postgraduate courses in 14 disciplines. The Tamil, Economics, Commerce, Microbiology, Zoology, English, Chemistry, History department ofeer M.Phil, Physics departments offer M.Phil. programme and the Zoology, Economics, Physics, Tamil, Botany departments are recognized as Research Centres.
