Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam was established in 1991 and is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam, Kerala. This Govt. Engineering college is situated in 87 acres of lush green campus.

The duration of Undergraduate courses(B.Tech) are 4 years (8 semesters) except for B.Arch which is 5 years(10 semesters). The M.Tech programmes are of 2 year duration (4 semesters). The no. of seats for B.Tech is 66 & B.Arch is 80. In addition to this, 10% seats are available for lateral entry students. There are 18 seats for each M.tech courses and 30 seats for MCA.
RIT Kerala has a group of professionally qualified and well experienced faculty.
Facilities of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology
The institute has a computerised library with facilities like online referencing, reservation system etc. I addition to books, periodicals,Journals and news papers are also available in the library. Apart from the central library, there is a separate library for the computer science & Engineering department. The digital seminar hall of the computer science department can accommodate 100 persons. All the departments have separate advanced laboratories. There is also a central computer centre with sufficient computers & communication facilities. Other facilities of RIT include: Conference & seminar halls, Auditorium, Playground, Canteen, Cafeteria, College buses etc.
A sports festival named 'Aravam' and an arts festival named 'Keli' are being organised in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology every year. The college provides hostel facility for the students. There are 2 women's hostels and one men's hostel. The hostel operations & mess are handled by a student committee and PTA.
Admission to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology is based on the merit/rank obtained in the engineering entrance examination conducted by Govt. of Kerala. Admission is not possible through management quota.
RIT is located in a place named 'Nedumkuzhi'. The nearest city to the college is Kottayam which can be easily accessed by road,rail or air. The campus is around 14 km from kottayam bus stand and 13 km from railway station. The nearest airport is Nedumbassery(Kochi) which is 90 km from kottayam.
