About St. Xavier's College
St. Xavier's College was established in the year 1923 and is one of the oldest institutions in Palayamkottai. It is an Autonomous College which is recognised by UGC as “College with potential for Excellence". The institution is also reaccredited with “A" grade by NAAC. The college provides a good learning environment to their students. The institution has well trained and highly qualified faculty members.
Facilities
The college has ventilated and spacious class rooms. Each and every department has separate well equipped laboratories. The institution has a large playground. The students are also provided with hostel facilities. The institution has a separate large library with many books, Indian journals, International Journals and magazines. The college has 18 research centers and the College library contains nearly 1,03,281 books. The college has smart classrooms with learning facilities such as desktop, laptop, LCDS, OHP, Slide Projector, Screens and internet connections.
Academics
The college offers UG, PG Courses, M.Phil Programmes and Ph.D Programmes. It has both aided and self-financing courses. The college also admits foreign students. The institution has national and international research collaboration. Many researches, major and minor projects are carried out regularly in all the departments. The college regularly organizes state level, national level and international level conferences. The students from this college have published many research papers.

The college also provides separate diploma and certificate courses on Drawing and Painting, Short film analysis, Photoshop, PremierPro film Editing, FCP Film editing, Communicational English and Human Rights Education

| The most interesting aspect of this college is the starting of the autonomous stand-alone B school, in 2012. Since its inception, this B school, the Xavier Institute of Business Administration, XIBA, has grown into a unique institution of its kind. In fact, there are other institutions like engineering colleges that also offer the MBA course, but there is no standalone B school either at Palayankottai or the twin town of Tirunelveli.
The B school is now headed by Dr. A. Maichael John, who is the Director. He has a good team of other Faculty Members who take on the mandate of giving the best inputs related to the four specializations of Marketing, Finance, Operations, and Human Resources Management.
Since the parent college, that is, St.Xavier's College enjoys such a big reputation for serving the educational needs of thousands of rural area students, XIBA has grown in stature within a very short time. The B school also arranges for regular guest lectures from Faculty Members, drawn from industry and they are very active in enabling the industry orientation of all students.
