About Tirunelveli Dakshina Mara Nadar Sangam College
Tirunelveli Dakshina Mara Nadar Sangam (T.D.M.N.S.) College started in the year 1971 on the land donated by the people of T. Kallikulam. It started with a single building and gradually extended it with three more blocks in the course of time. The first batch of the college was having around 100 enrollments and it expanded with more students and faculty, now functional as a reputed first-grade college. It is currently offering 11 Undergraduate, 3 Postgraduate, 2 M.Phil, PGDCA and few career-oriented courses and is affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. It is also accredited with B+ grade by NAAC recently.
Facilities The campus of T.D.M.N.S. college is having an accommodation facility for girls in a hostel. It was started with the financial support provided by UGC in 2011 and is having the capacity to accommodate more than 30 girls in a total of 25 rooms. Girls residing in the hostels are supposed to follow the rules instructed by the wardens and deputy wardens and are allowed to visit their homes fortnightly.
The library facility is available in the college and is managed by strict rules and regulations. Students entering the library need to show their ID cards and to mention their names in the register. Students can borrow the books to study but need to return the same within the stipulated time frame. Reference books and periodicals cannot be issued to the students in any case. The teaching staff is also allowed to borrow the books from this library but the rules are the same for them and failing in returning the books on time may lead them to make penalty payments.
To support the practical learning of the concepts, the college has well-set laboratories with all the required instruments and equipment. Computer lab with an adequate number of computer systems and internet facility is also there for the students at no additional cost.
The college also provides transport services to the students coming from nearby villages on a daily basis. This service is optional for students and they need to make extra payments as per the routes and distances.
Sports activities are also supported by the college administration and provide the basic facilities for some outdoor games. The students participate in the games at different levels and organize a sports day in the college every year.
Scholarships ThT.D.M.N.S. college offers many scholarships based on various requirements of the students but there are some common rules for all the scholarships. For example, students belonging to the SC/ST or any backward classes can only avail the scholarships and students having their attendance less than 75% are not eligible for any scholarships. Apart from many merit scholarships, there are some scholarships to support the students belonging to the Labourers, farmers, Beedi workers and physically challenged students.
