About B. Borooah College
About the B. Borooah College The Roots The B.borooah College is known in the name of famous Assamese Industrialist Bholanath Borooah. It was established in the year 1943 by the Assamese nationalist and former Chief Minister of Assam Mr.Gopinath Bordoloi, a freedom fighter who struggled and fought against the British. The starting of the college itself is associated with India's freedom struggle. The British authorities ordered the discontinuation of such students from the Cotton college who joined in the freedom struggle movement. Gopinath Bordoloi and his friend started another college with only 15 students in the beginning. That is the start of B.Borooah College in 1943 and initially, it was affiliated to Calcutta University.
Who runs it The college run by a governing body that includes many distinguished personalities associated with the college.
Academic merits The college has accredited with an A grade by NAAC and offers 10+2 courses, affiliated to Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. The undergraduate courses are affiliated with Gauhati University. It also offers many distant education courses affiliated with Tezpur University. There are more than 100 well-qualified faculties working in the college.
Facilities in the college The college Library is known as Hem Baruah Library in the name of the former principal of the college- Hem Baruah. There are more than 50000 books including magazines, journals, and newspapers in the library. The college has a boy's hostel which can accommodate 120 inmates and the annual fee for this is Rs.12000. A well equipped Gymnasium, a canteen and a stationary corner are also available in the college. It has wings of NSS and NCC which are most dynamic in the college. - Vimaldev Ullattuthodiyil Vasudevan
