About International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)
IIIT Hyderabad is an autonomous university established in 1998 with seed support from the Government of Andhra Pradesh under the not-for-profit public-private partnership model. This is the first IIIT to be established as such under this n-PPPP model. A major goal of IIIT is to impart a uniquely broad and interdisciplinary IT education of the highest academic quality. This is achieved through an integrated curriculum that consists of a highly diverse set of IT courses, interdisciplinary IT research projects, day-to-day interaction with industry, preparation in entrepreneurship and personality development courses. Apart from its focus on technology, the institute lays a lot of emphasis on quality research. It is one of the few colleges in India to provide scope for advanced research to its undergraduate students. A few such areas for research for undergraduate students are robotics, search engines, computer vision, wireless communication, speech processing, pattern recognition, machine translation, databases, data mining, VLSI, embedded systems, and bioinformatics. Added to this, the curriculum at IIIT Hyderabad is quite flexible and the students can select their own courses and projects.
Infrastructure and facilities Built on 66 acres of lush green land, the campus of IIIT Hyderabad is very conveniently located. Situated on the Gachibowli Main Road, it is well connected with the rest of the city of Hyderabad through buses and tempos. The campus is a self-contained one with all facilities within the premises itself. Apart from a number of hostels and messes, there are food canteens, stationery shops, banks, ATMs, sports facilities, gyms, laundry services, and weekly movie shows. The Gachibowli area is a prime place in Hyderabad as many IT companies, including, Microsoft, Wipro, Google, and others are located in the nearby vicinity. Educational institutions like the University of Hyderabad (UoH), the International School of Business (ISB), Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Development Banking (JNIDB), and a few others are also located close by.
The computer labs at IIITH are well-equipped, air-conditioned, and the most modern ones. They have the latest software and hardware. On average, for every two students, there is one PC. The entire campus, including, the hostels are connected with round the clock high-speed intranet and internet connectivity. Those engaged in research work have 24x7 access to computational facilities.
The library with its large collection of books, reports, standards, literature, and CDROMs is a fully integrated one. It makes use of multi-user Library Management Software that has automated the cataloging process and also provides an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility. There is a digital library as well that provides students access to a host of online books, tutorials, recorded lectures, and software.
There are five hostels at the IIIT Hyderabad campus – three for boys and two for girls. Several faculty members and staff also stay within the campus. The security at the campus is very tight. The streets inside the campus are well-lit and the entire campus is covered with lush green trees.
For sports, the college has facilities for cricket, football, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, etc. There are also arrangements with the neighbouring Gachibowli Stadium for sports like swimming, hockey, and badminton. Apart from the common gym, there is a mini gym exclusively for the girls at their hostel. There is a Yoga room with an expert guru for providing guidance and coaching to the students.
