About Government Arts College
Govt. Arts College, is located at Thycaud Thiruvananthapuram. The college has always had one of the best teaching faculties in the state. No wonder the institution has won the R. Sankar Award for the best college two times in a row since its inception, in performance in sports and games has also been bagged by this college recently.
Government Arts College was initially started as part of H. H. The Maharaja's College, Thiruvananthapuram and then in 1924 it got separated as H. H. The Maharaja's College of Arts. The departments of Economics, History, English and Dravidian languages were started at that time and gradually other departments were added. In the time span of more than 60 years, many changes happened and currently, this college is offering graduate and postgraduate degrees in Commerce, Physics, Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry and Economics.
InfrastructureThe campus area is around 2 acres big and there are 26 well-ventilated classrooms. The college also has well equipped laboratories, 2 seminar rooms and 1 conference room.
The library has a reading room with a seating capacity of 30 students at a time. It has more than 36,000 books and has a subscription of around 12 journals, including, both national and international.
The campus is having BSNL Broadband connectivity with a speed of 1 MBPS and 2 computer centers. A canteen is available for both students and staff, offering hygienic food at subsidized rates. There are separate common rooms for students and teachers.
