Since many small scale and large scale textile businesses are ruling the economy of Salem, the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India has established a special institute named Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) at Salem to conduct various degree programmes on handloom and technology. The aspirants who wish to pursue a degree in Handloom and Textile Technology can join IIHT. It is the only institution in India which offers B.Tech Handloom & Textile Technology course. The course is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.
