Course Details
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is a 3-year program for those joining the course after passing their class 10 with science, math and English as their compulsory subjects. Students who have passed their class 12 with science or passed ITI after class 10 can directly join in the 2nd year of the course.
The diploma program provides you with a broad understanding of various concepts in the field of mechanical engineering. Topics such as mechanics, heat and thermodynamics, theory of machines, engineering drawing, strength of materials, refrigeration, airconditioning and others are dealt with in detail. The course familiarizes you with aspects of designing, manufacturing, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems. You also learn about specialized fields like computer aided designing (CAD), computer aided manufacturing and CNC machining that are being widely used in today's manufacturing industries. During the course you are provided with hands-on-training at a number of shops like machine shop, fitting shop, carpentry shop, pattern shop, welding shop, sheet metal shop and so on. At the end of the fourth semester, the students are provided with industrial training for 6 weeks at renowned industries and organizations.
The above diploma program prepares you for the job of a technician as well as in supervisory role in a number of manufacturing industries. There are also opportunities to join various government organizations, the railways and even the armed forces after doing this diploma. Many even join as paid apprentices in industries and factories and gain useful exposure.
Eligibility Criteria for Diploma Mechanical Engineering Admissions
Pass in class 10 with science, math and English as compulsory subjects. For lateral entry to 2nd year, the candidate should have passed class 12 with science or class 10 plus 2 years of ITI.
