Introduction to Medical Laboratory technology
Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) is one of the fast growing fields across the globe in health care area. The technologist is a professional who analyses the body fluids like sputum, blood, urine analysis, drug level testing, cerebrospinal fluid etc. They also assist doctors in the treatment of diseases and play a vital role in the prevention of diseases. The job involves in detecting the presence or absence of micro-organisms in the samples of the patients. They help physicians to detect, diagnose and in treating the patients of various diseases. The trained technologist has to handle complex electronic equipments, computer and different types of microscopes and in documentation of the reports. The students would be trained in laboratory management and practical and internal assessment and viva-voce. The technologists also carry out complex tests for deadly diseases like AIDS/HIV, diabetes, cancer, etc.
Course details for Medical Laboratory Technology
The students are trained in handling clinical tests, handling laboratory equipments, microscopic and automated analyses. Their duties also involve in matching blood samples for blood transfusions, testing and checking of cholesterol levels etc, find cause and make reports. They are given hands on experience to find cause and make reports for patient's treatment. The aspiring candidates are provided platform for jobs in various sectors. The students can specialize in areas of microbiology (study of microscopic organisms), parasitology (study of parasites),chemical chemistry ( analysis of body fluids) immunology (study of human immunity), serology(study of serum and body fluids), haematology(study of blood), coagulation etc. Their work also caters to the maintenance of laboratory equipments like centrifuge, microscopes, test tubes etc. The duties involve collecting samples of blood and body fluids and analysing them for various diseases. The trained technologists need to wear protective clothing while on duty.
Eligibility : Pass in 10th or equivalent with 50% aggregate marks. Admission is through merit in qualifying examination. Graduate students are also eligible for the course.
