Introduction to MS E.N.T
M.S. is Master of surgery and it is a Master or Post graduation level course in Medical stream. It can be pursued in different subjects as per the interest of the candidate. M.S. in ENT is completely related to the study of Ears, Nose, and Throat. The course teaches about the structure of these organs, their mechanism, and connection with other organs of the body, related diseases, and their treatments. Candidates having a keen interest in the functioning of Ears, Nose, and Throats and have desires to become a specialist in that area are suitable for this course.
Course duration
MS (ENT) is a three year course in normal cases. Candidate with additional diploma in related field will complete this course in 2 years only.
Eligibility
Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in 12th standard and have completed their MBBS from a recognized institute are eligible for this course. The minimum eligible scores in MBBS may vary from one institute to another and it is advised to check the same before submission of application form to avoid end moment rejection of the application.

Candidates need to submit their duly filled application form along with all other required documents before the due date of submission. Course detailsENT is also known as Otolaryngology and this branch of medical science deals with the treatment of ear, nose, throat, head and neck. It actually focuses on the entire area above cervical or collar bone. So, for common man, it works for problems related to speaking, hearing, maintaining balance, smelling, breathing and swallowing. The MS ENT focuses equally on theoretical as well as surgical part to make the candidate eligible for surgical and medical treatment of the ears, nose, throat and related head and neck areas. There are further sub specializations available like- Ear diseases or Otology, Rhinology or the study of the Nose, Throat (Laryngology), etc.
The course starts with basics of Ears, Nose and Throat and includes topics like Prenatal and Postnatal development of the ear, airspace, lining membrane, Ossicles, pneumatization of the mastoid process, anatomy of temporal bone, petrous portion, squamous portion, anatomy of ears including internal and external ears and other related topics. Then candidates learn about bacteriology which includes immunology, fungus, Ciruses, etc. Parts of Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology and Special pathology is also included in the course. Candidates also learn about the surgical pathology of jaw, neck, mouth, salivary glands, etc.
Course content/syllabus
The course will broadly involve subjects like Anatomy and Physiology of the Ear, Nose and Throat, Pathophysiology of common disorders of the Ear, Nose and Throat and appraising research based evidence. The subjects are then further classified to sub topics like- Prenatal & postnatal development of organs, external anatomy of organs, Bacteriology related to these organs, Biochemistry, pathology ans special pathology.
Further Study options
After its completion, usually candidates prefer to start working as a doctor but still, a candidate wants to study further he or she can enroll for M.Ch. E.N.T.(Master of Chirurgiae in E.N.T.) or Ph.D. in E.N.T. Higher studies always guarantee a better career.
Job aspects
After completion of this course, these candidates are completely ready to work as an E.N.T Specialist in hospitals, clinics, etc. Candidate will also have options to work Consultants in his or her private clinic, ENT assistants, Researchers, Professors, ENT surgeons and Private practitioners. They also have options Government and Private Hospitals. Lastly, they can also join any institute as a lecturer or as an assistant professor.
