The Power sector of India has reached a transitional phase and continuously advancing itself in terms of technology. Many new projects related to Ultra Mega Thermal are in plan for both private as well public sectors and require experts from this field. It includes advance technologies like latest technology of Control & Instrumentation systems, Electrical, Super Critical Technology, etc.
Students study about all the basic theoretical part of Power Generation and gain advance knowledge about Operation & Maintenance of the Thermal power plants. The course makes them capable for operating and maintaining Power plants of high capacity successfully.
The course also allows the candidates to attend on -job practice sessions to be conducted in power plants stations and substations.
Candidates from engineering background are eligible for this course. 3 years Diploma holders, B.E., B.Tech. Degree holders with specialization in instrumentation, physics, etc are eligible for this course.
Being a technical course, the admission is not very easy for all institutes. Many institutes conduct an entrance examination and on the basis of candidate's performance, they select the candidates for course.
Interested candidates must inquire first about their eligibility before submitting their application form.

Further study options
After completion of this course, interested candidates can pursue post graduation in their related stream. This can be Masters of Science (M.S.), Masters of Engineering (M.E.), Masters of Technology (M.Tech.), etc. candidates then go for Ph.D. to have doctoral degree and research experience in this field.
The course typically includes all Power generation and power plant operation related topics. Candidates learn about ash, fuel, their types and types of handling systems. They learn about cyclonic separator, methods of controlling pollution in plants, their operations and many more. Types of power plants like diesel power plant, petrol power plants, etc are also includes in the course.
Details of fuel injection system, air compressor, gas turbine plant, cycle plant and nuclear waste disposal are also part of this course.
The candidates are in great demand in research labs working for up gradation of power plants. There are many government projects in pipeline and requires these candidates to take up the responsibility. These candidates can also work in power plants as a technician, engineer, etc.
