Introduction to MA Population Studies
The course focuses on demographic behaviour of people, their life events, births, marriages, deaths and its impact on population levels trends. Population studies relates to the patterns and population changes in demographic areas and is impact on global population. The programme trains the students with basic tools for learning the population ranges and the ideas for examining the population issues connecting the past and the present. The course aims at training the students with demographic analysis of population confined to the changes and patterns existing. The course equips the students to address the population of the country and its developmental problem. It provides training program which confers the degree in population studies and gives in-service training. The population studies also facilitates academic and policy oriented research on population and development, inter relationships which covers the areas of population and environment, reproduction health, immunization, family planning, child labour, ageing, demographic dividend etc.
Course Description of Population Studies
The graduates gain knowledge of theoretical, practical and the methodology. The students acquire the skills of using different demographic analysis and would be exposed to deal with dynamic nature of human population. The students need to actively participate in programs relevant to planning, implementing and monitoring the management of population. The students need to coordinate in research methodology and estimate the demography parameters. They would also be trained to assess the population growth and study the problems and issues related to food, health and urbanization the program also helps in imbibing the multidimensional skills of population aspects, its impact and understand the causes and consequences pertaining to children, women, elders, refuges, poor and the disabled.
The subjects of study in the course are introduction to population studies, growth, characteristics, data source, fertility, mortality, public health, spatial distribution, migration, urbanization, dynamics of age, sex structure, population theories, policy, and programmes, health, nutrition, population projection, management, evaluation, research methodology, biostatistics, demography, urban and regional planning, population statistics, assessment, viva voce.
Eligibility: The candidates with master's degree from a recognized university are eligible with Mathematics, health, statistic as the subjects. Admissions will be based on the selection process by the selection committee. Candidates with exposure in population, health or allied areas will be preferred.
