Masters of Philosophy with specialization in Library and Information Science is a research based post graduate course. This specialization is an interdisciplinary which has application in management, education, information technology and many other areas related to library. The course includes about its application, perspectives and even the practices. Candidates learn about organization, collection, preservation, dissemination and availability of information and resources. They learn to keep records in a way that they become easily accessible for the readers.
Eligibility
Although it is a post graduate degree, but eligibility criteria requires a candidate with post graduate degree. Masters degree holders with specialization in science, arts, engineering, etc are eligible for this course. The minimum required marks are 50-55% which may vary from institute to institute.
Duration
Most of the time, it is 2 years but may vary depending upon the mode of the course and institutes rules.
Admission Procedure
The admission procedure will be different for regular course and distance learning course. The regular course may require an appearance in entrance test and the candidates who qualify the same will need to attend the interview. This process may again vary from institute to institute.
Further study options
After completing this course, candidates can go for their doctorate degree, that is Doctorate in Philosophy in same or similar specialization. Candidates can also pursue B.Ed, M.Ed if their interest resides in teaching.
