Course Detail
It is post graduation degree named as Masters in Arts with specialization in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. The course includes both theory and practical classes and candidates learn about Speech-Language Pathology, speech therapy, Audiology and other allied subjects like Statistics, Linguistics, etc.
Students learn to apply principles of evidence-based practice and principles of the ASHA code of ethics through this course.
They also learn about the writing and language skills required for a clinical practice.
Admission Procedure
For most of the institutes, admission is done on merit basis. The merit list gets prepared considering the marks obtained by the candidates during their graduation in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology from any recognized university.
Candidates just need to fill up the application form and submit the same with all other documents and application fee before due date.
Eligibility
Bachelors with specialization in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) are eligible for this course. The candidates must have pursued their course form recognized institute and have scored more than 55% marks as aggregate in Graduation.
Duration
The course contains 2 years of duration which are equivalent to 4 semesters. Each semester has its separate syllabus and candidates need to clear all the semesters separately to complete the course.
Further study options
When a candidate successfully qualified this course, he or she is eligible to start work as clinical practitioner. If any of them is interested in higher studies, PhD- a doctorate degree can be pursued which will give an opportunity to conduct research in the area of interest.
Other short term course can be pursued related to instruments in the field of Audiology and speech therapy.
Course highlights
The course includes study about Foundations in Child Language Disorders, Foundations and Management in Fluency, Voice Disorders: Theory and Analysis, Foundations in Adult Language Disorders and other audiology related problems and their causes. They also learn about their cures and prevention measures.
The later stage of course includes learning about Written Language Development and Disorders, Assessment and Treatment of Diverse Populations, Foundations and Management in Dysphagia, Foundations and Management in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, etc.
A part of hearing related problems is also included in this course. Candidates get practical exposures during their course and they get chance to meet the patients in person to understand the theory well.
