Introduction to Diploma in Jainism
The founder of Jain religion is Mahavira. The followers of Jainism take vows of ahimsa, not lying, not stealing and chastity. The followers of the path practiced and preached by jinas are called jains. Jains trace their history through twenty four tirthankaras. Jains extend the practice of non violence and kindness o all forms of life. The course is of one year duration and aims at providing Jain knowledge for interested students. It provides a platform for students to interact between different Jain communities and organisations. Jainism teachings include ahimsa, interdependence, compassion, empathy and charity. The ultimate goal of Jainism is the liberation of the self from rebirth.
Eligibility for the Course
The candidate should have completed certificate course in Jain-logy from Jain academy or from any other university which offers courses in Jainism. The students should have interest in pursuing the course.

The course consists of two papers. The topics covered in the course are Jainism through ages, Jainism before Mahavira, his contemporaries and social conditions, post Mahavira period, Jain agama literature, canonical and non canonical svetambana literature, digambaras, spread of Jainism, Jain thinkers, reformers, Jain way of life. The course provides students understanding of Jain faith and awareness of its history, art, philosophy and its practices. Jain doctrines emphasis on peaceful co-existence and discipline life.
The students gain knowledge of the study and work of thirthankaras and acharya parmpara, they are exposed to study of Jain literature, art and architecture. The course provides strong understanding of Jain Prakrit literature and grammar, role of Jain community in various fields. The students get adequate knowledge about positions and status of Jain women. The course consists of two papers and includes lectures, assignments, field work, seminars, group discussions, quiz, tutorials, counselling, tests, oral and written examinations. The students are exposed to concepts of Jainism today, Jainism and science, modern-life and style, Jainism community, animal rights and environmental issues. The students learn about holistic approach towards healthy living.

The successful candidates can continue further studies in MA/ M.Phil/ P.hD for post doctoral projects. They find jobs as resource persons in libraries, international schools for Jain students.
