Overview
Almost everyone is aware these days about the field of aviation. A field concerned with flying aeroplanes, aviation deals with the design, development, production, operation and maintenance of heavier-than-air aircrafts. It is categorised into 3 classes. Military, general and commercial aviation. The general and commercial aviation are only applicable for the civilian population. Those who wish to work in these two categories can obtain a degree by undergoing a course in B.Sc Aviation. For a military pilot, one has to undergo training provided by the air wings of the armed forces. Both general and commercial aviation provide ample opportunities for employment and growth.
Eligibility and course duration
- For freshers, pass in 10+2 with Physics, Math and preferably English. Minimum 50% in 10+2. Class II medical certificate from a DGCA approved doctor.
- For CPL (commercial pilot license) holders, class I medical certificate from DGCA medical centres.
Duration of this course is 3 years.

B.Sc. aviation is a well-rounded course that provides excellent opportunities for those interested in making flying as a career in civil aviation. After the course is over, the students are awarded with a B.Sc degree along with a flying license. Along with flying, the students will be given theoretical training in Air Regulations, Navigation, Meteorology, Avionics and Aircraft & Engines. The final semester also includes project works on topics, Crew Resources Management, Flight Safety, Aviation Medicine, Air Traffic Control, Aviation Security and Human Factor.
This formal degree in aviation broadens the field for a pilot to pursue a postgraduation course which in turn improves upon the prospects for a higher managerial role in aviation. It also improves upon the knowledge base of the pilots regarding the aircraft or helicopter they fly, its engines, parameters and its limitations. It helps in adding value to their skills and expertise in flying.

This course enables you in getting absorbed in the civil aviation field. You can get to work with a number of commercial airlines in the private sector and those owned by the government, like Air India. You can also join general aviation where there are opportunities in the government field and the private sector. You can join flying clubs or flying training academies as an instructor. You can pursue higher learning courses like M.Sc Aviation and M.Sc Aviation Management that enables you to perform a more effective managerial role in aviation management.
