Masters in Arts is a post graduate course and specialization in Assamese deals with the language- Assamese with more and advanced details. Candidates learn about everything related to Assam, its culture, its history, etc.
It is a theoretical course hence candidates can pursue it full time regular as well as part time course through correspondence. The duration will vary in both the cases.
Eligibility
A candidate holding Graduation degree from recognized university with minimum 50% marks is eligible for this course. The graduation degree must be pursued in Assamese or related specialization.
Any other short term course in Assamese may also be considered for admission in some institutes.
There is no age limit for this course.

Duration
Being a post graduate course, it is having 2 years duration in regular mode. These 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters, each having 6 months duration. The duration may vary for course through correspondence.
Further study options
After pursuing post graduation degree, high studies can be pursued as M.Phil and then PhD. These are research based courses where candidates get chance to conduct their own research on ay of the selected topic from their specialization.
Other options include related short term course like typing, creative writing, etc.

History of Assamese Literature (Early and Medieval Period) is also included in the course.

The later part of course includes Assamese Prose (Early and Modern), Assamese Poetry, Assamese Novel and Assamese Drama and the Stage.
Topics like Sociology of Literature Context of Assamese, Sino-Tibetan Language of North-East India, Introduction to Phonology and Assamese Phonology, Introduction to Morphology and Assamese Morphology, Lexicography: Theory and Practice, etc are some important part of the course.
