M.A Islamic Studies is a post graduation level Islamic religious course. The course includes everything about Islam religion like details about Kalam- Islamic theology, Islamic jurisprudence, etc. The advancements in the religion are also included in the course like Islamic economy, Islamic Science, etc. The course is completely theoretical; hence is available in regular as well as through correspondence and candidates already working may pursue it side by side their present jobs.
Eligibility
The eligibility for this course has various aspects. Candidate who has pursued graduation in Islamic Studies with at least 50% marks are eligible for this course. Other equivalent courses are also considered if pursued from recognized institutes.
Candidates holding graduation degree in Fazil from any Madarasa are also eligible for this course.
Applicant must have speaking proficiency in Urdu/ Persian or Arabic.
Admission Procedure
Some institutes offer direct admissions, where as some institutes take admission on merit list basis. Only few universities conduct entrance examination and interviews for admissions. The minimum eligible marks may vary from institute to institute and candidates are advised to check the same before submitting their application form.
Duration
The duration is 4 semesters/ 2 years in regular mode. In this case, candidates need to attend the classes every day. The duration varies for course through correspondence where candidates are provided with the study material and they have to study as per their suitability.
Further study options
After successful completion of Post graduation degree, the available options for higher studies are M.Phil and PhD. These are research based courses where candidates need to read literature in details and then to conduct research on any of the selected topic from their specialization.
Course highlights
The course has 2 main parts- Pre (First year) and Final (Second year). The Pre- part of course includes basic topics like History of Muslim Civilization, Study about Quran, Hadith, Tasawwuf, fiqh, etc. Candidates also learn about development of Muslim Kalam, Sects and their philosophy. The later part of course includes Islam in Modern age, Islam in Indian Subcontinent, Reform movements and thinkers in Muslim religion, etc.
