Overview
Medical biochemistry is concerned with the chemical reactions and combinations related to the biological processes in living organisms. The study of biochemistry helps us understand the complexities of life and how it might have originated. Biochemical research is a very hot field today that helps in improving our understanding of the processes occurring within living cells and that in turn helps improve our knowledge about issues, organs and the organism as a whole. Similar to molecular biology, it also helps us in understanding molecular mechanisms responsible for the coding of the genetic information in the DNA.
Eligibility and course duration
Should have passed MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BHMS/BUMS or B.Sc in nursing, zoology, chemistry, life sciences, anthropology and other related fields. Admissions are mostly on the basis of merit in the qualifying exam.
For medical and nursing graduates the duration of the course is 2 years. For science graduates it is 3 years.

It involves studying the biological processes such as growth, body metabolisms, reproduction and the effect that environment has on living organisms. It's about studying the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology to studying structures and functions of macromolecules such as enzymes, fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Through the advances made in medical biochemistry one gets to understand the structure of the DNA. In this field you study the causes of diseases and the role of genetics in transmission of diseases from generation to generation. It also involves studying the chemical changes that take place in living cells signaling the onset of diseases.
