Overview
This is a research based program for both civilian population as well as military officers and provides a critical analysis of policies regarding defence and security matters. It improves upon a candidate's knowledge about issues concerning national security and in understanding the dynamics of power equations with respect to other regional powers. The course contains many issues related to military power, security dynamics, international relations, diplomacy, defence strategies, security policies, conflicts and wars, role of the armed forces and so on.
Eligibility and course duration
Postgraduate degree in any of the disciplines but preferably in Defence and Strategic Studies, International Relations, War Studies, Defence and Diplomatic studies or Military Science. Work experience in establishments such as defence and diplomacy is also taken into account at times for admission. A few of the seats in some colleges are kept reserved for military officers.
This research program lasts from 1-2 years.

Any research activity associated with Defence and Strategic Studies assumes significance, all the more because, we are heading towards an increasingly conflict ridden world.
