More about the course
The field of instrumentation, especially scientific instrumentation plays a very important role in today's process control industries that are increasingly gravitating towards automation and other new age wonders like robotics and artificial intelligence. From nano scale molecular processes in biological cells to large scale processes in chemical reactors, environmental monitoring, disease diagnosis and other areas the field of scientific instrumentation is finding increasing applications. Currently the focus is on seeking new instrumentation technologies that will utilize a range of sensors that are chemical, biochemical or physical in nature. Like other M.Phil program the course focuses on coursework and some original research. Among the 3 courses in coursework one is about research methodology that explains you about the entire research process including submissions of a thesis.
The field of scientific instrumentation has numerous opportunities in a number of technology driven fields. You will be acquiring skills in design and development of various kinds of scientific instruments. You will be also thorough about their applications in a number of processes including electrical, electronic, scientific and biomedical and use them for measurement and control. For someone who has specialized in scientific instrumentation there are of course numerous opportunities in industries such as aviation, aerospace, robotics, pharmaceuticals, refineries, petrochemicals, chemicals and refineries. One can also get into a number of government owned enterprises and research organizations. You also get the opportunity to pursue programs like PhD, if you are eager about a research based career in research institutions and labs.
