Master of Philosophy is usually abbreviated and used as 'M.Phil' which is a research based course. The specialization- 'Tamil literature' is solely deals with literature in Tamil language. Candidates learn about the rich history of Tamil literature which is around two thousand years old. They learn about its evolution and contribution of various people for such a long period. Not only Tamil people have contributed but there are notable contributions from European authors also
Candidates also learn about political and social issues and details of different periods.
Eligibility
Candidates holding a post graduate degree from any of the recognized university with specialization in Tamil literature are eligible for this course. The minimum qualifying marks ranges between 50-55%. There is no age restriction for this course and candidates can pursue the same as per their suitability and interest.
Admission Procedure
For admission, candidates need to submit the filled application form before due date. The form must be enclosed with all other required documents like copy for graduation and post graduation degrees and mark sheets, application fee, experience certificate (if applicable) etc.
Duration
The duration for this course is 2 years. Most of the institutes have divided the course in 4 parts/ semesters. Each of these semesters is having 6 months duration and a prescribed syllabus to complete.
Further study options
M.Phil is considered as a research based degree and candidates pursuing this can go further for PhD if their interest persist for the same. During PhD, they study the literature for their references and then they can select any of the available topics to conduct their own research.
