Introduction
M.Phil is Masters in Philosophy and it is a research based course. The specialization 'Tamil' deals with in depth study of Tamil as language. As a candidate has already pursued graduation and post graduation level courses in Tamil, he or she has understood the basics of the course. In this course, candidates learn experimental facts, like novels, creative writing, Tamil culture, famous authors, etc.
Eligibility
Candidate having Post graduation degree in Tamil is eligible for this course. An equivalent prior knowledge of Tamil is also considered by some institutes but in that case, the candidate has to clear entrance examination.
The minimum qualifying marks ranges from 50-55% as aggregate during post graduation.
Admission Procedure
Admission are simple for most of the institutes and includes Submission of duly filled form enclosed with all other required documents and application fee. The admissions are offered directly or on merit basis. For special cases, some institutes may conduct entrance examinations.
Duration
The duration is 2 years for full time regular course. If a candidate is pursuing it as part time course or as a correspondence course, then the duration may vary and candidate needs to check the same from institute.
Further study options
After completion of M.Phil, candidates can enroll for PhD, if they have research attitude. PhD. is a Doctorate degree which is considered as the highest academic degree and gives excellent job opportunities afterwards.
Apart from this regular degree course option, interested candidates can also pursue some short term courses like for speed typing, short hand, etc. This will broaden their job profile.
Course highlights
This is a language based course so most of the part of course is theoretical. It includes reading and understanding high level Tamil literature, novels, poems, etc. and writing poems, stories, drama in Tamil. The first half of the course consist of studying and understanding ad the later half duration includes research and writing of thesis. Candidates need to complete their short term project and then write small thesis mentioning about their project in it.
