Ph.D. is a research based degree and specialization 'Information Retrieval' deals with all kind of information retrieval like business information domains, structured document retrieval and many more. Admission for PhD. can be done through many different ways. It can be through national level exams like CSIR NET and UGC NET. Candidates scoring top ranks in these examinations will get opportunity to pursue their PhD in fully funded government institutes in India.
Another way is by appearing and scoring good rank in Institute level entrance examinations for PhD. This PhD can be fully funded, partially funded and even non funded depending upon the institute affiliation.
Other ways include self sponsored PhD where candidates need to contact the supervisor with his/ her SOP, by extending the ongoing short term project or by enrolling for PhD side by side teaching assistant-ship.
Duration
The duration for this course is not strictly fixed and ranges between 3-5 years.

PhD. is considered as the highest degree in academics hence no further education is required for getting a good job options. If a candidate is still interested in pursuing further research based qualification, he or she can go for Post Doctorate degree.
