Introduction
Persian is an Iranian language and known as Farsi by most of the people. Through M.Phil in Persian, candidates learn the language in details which includes its origin in Persis, its evolution, about various places where this language is in use and many more. M.Phil is a combination of theoretical studies and research where candidates learn about how to conduct research and even conduct their own short term project as dissertation.
This course can be pursued in regular mode and many institutes also offer it in correspondence mode. Candidates can take it as per their suitability.
Eligibility
Candidates having Masters Degree in Persian or related specialization are eligible for this course. Prior knowledge of Persian also makes them eligible in some institutes where they need to clear an entrance examination.
The minimum qualifying marks ranges between 50-55% and there is no age restriction for this course.
Admission Procedure
Interested candidates can get admission by submitting their filled application form with all the other required documents and application fee before last date. Some institutes offer admission directly on first come firs serve basis. Some institutes take on merit basis and short list the candidates on the basis of their grades.
Only few institutes conduct entrance examinations for admission.
Duration
The duration is 2 years. During 1st year, candidates are supposed to study all the topics and in second year, they need to complete their dissertation and submit the thesis.
Further study options
After successful completion of this course, candidates can continue their studies by enrolling for their PhD. During PhD. they need to select any unique topic of their interest which must be from their specialization.
Course highlights
Candidates study the topics like Research Methodology & Textual Criticism, Study of a particular form of Persian Literature, Persian Linguistics, Study of a particular form of Persian or Indo-Persian Literature, etc. Topics like Persian Paleography, Sufism, Indo-Persian Culture and Persian Poetics are also included in the course.
The later part of course includes dissertation under the guidance of supervisor.
Job aspects
If we talk about career options in the field of Persian, candidates can become teacher, lecturer and professor in colleges having Persian in their curriculum. They can also join printing and publishing agencies. Journalism is again an option for them. They can become a Translator or Interpreter for converting books from Persian language to English and vice versa. They can also start their own tuition classes.
