Eligibility Criteria

  • To get admission into a doctoral program in Sanskrit language, a student needs to have a Master's degree in Sanskrit language. In some subjects, the prerequisite to start Ph.D is completing a Master's in Philosophy ( M.Phil ) degree.
  • In cases where entrance examination has been conducted before admission to the M. Phil degree and course work has been prescribed at the M. Phil level, such candidates when admitted to the Ph.D programs are not required to undertake an entrance examination or course work.
  • Admission is offered on the basis of interview which is usually held a month before the commencement of the semester. The interview may be supplemented by a written test, if necessary.
  • Normally, all students of Ph.D program are required to be a resident on campus.

The minimum duration of Ph.D Sanskrit course is 2 years from the date of registration and a maximum of 5 to 6 years.
