Course Description of Bachelor of Speech Language & Hearing (BSLH)
The course BSLH is an under graduate degree program that provides a career as speech language audiologist. The course offers gateway to higher studies such as masters and research courses in the relevant field. Study involves learning bout disorders of speech, language and hearing. The program provides theoretical and practical knowledge with emphasis on clinical teaching and learning. Instruction includes hands-on experience in clinical setting for transferable knowledge to be applied in day to day situations. Training covers diagnosis, treatment, evaluation and management of communicable disorders.The program focuses on learning the aspect how vocal cords helps in speaking.
Eligibility Criteria for the Course (BSLH)
The aspiring candidates should have completed PUC/10+2 from a recognized university. The candidate must have studied subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Admission is through entrance examination. Students should have good English communication skills.
Additional Description of the Course
The course is designed for students to equip them with strong foundation in linguistics and spoken language perception. Students are exposed to learning about human communication sciences and disorders. Program provides knowledge on language and culture, relationships, language analysis and usage of speech in computers. Students would be working with children and adults with speech disabilities. The course helps them to promote technology based rehabilitation for persons with hearing loss. Training would be imparted to enhance the communication skills to develop interactions with family members and other professionals from varied fields. The students would be equipped with skills that are necessary for clinical decision making, logical and analytical skills.
The curriculum includes seminars, research writing, internship, clinical practice, audio-visual learning aids, ppt presentations, videos, demonstrations, concept mapping practicals and assessments. The subjects of study includes, social science, natural science and humanities. Students would be exposed to study of linguistics, anatomy and physiology and treatment of communication disorders. The syllabus covers topic on biology, developmental disabilities, disability across life span, phonetics, ethics, audiology, normal language acquisition, calculus, trigonometry, cognition, audiology, speech science, clinical process, introduction to linguistic.
