Course overview:
Chemical engineering is a traditional branch of engineering, which applies the basic concepts of physical sciences and life sciences to produce, transform, transport, and use chemicals, materials and energy appropriately. In today's world, advances in chemical engineering have enabled engineers to create synthetic substitutes for our inadequate natural materials and resources. The objective of the Chemical Engineering undergraduate course is to prepare skilled professionals for taking leading positions in the chemical industry.
Course Details:
The eight semester course is taught using theory, practical, tutorial, project, and various academic activities. Students undergo basic subjects namely: physics, maths, applied chemistry, applied mechanics, engineering drawing etc. The second and the third year curriculum comprises of basic subjects of electronic materials, process engineering, energy, food processing, electronic materials, safety, environmental, electrochemical processes, polymers, biochemical engineering etc. The course curriculum is designed to prepares the student to face the real world challenges in the chemical domain.
Job opportunities:
The basic role of a chemical engineering graduate is to design and develop processes in chemical sector namely: oil and gas; pharmaceuticals; energy; water treatment; manufacturing, healthcare, design and construction, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, nuclear energy, mineral based industries , food processing, polymers, biotechnology, and environmental health and safety industries, plastics; toiletries etc. There are also ample job opportunities in the government sector in healthcare, atomic power plants, environment regulation, recycling department and power conservation projects. Chemical engineering has always been one of the sought after branches for few decades.
