Introduction to M.Sc in Plant Pathology
M.Sc in plant pathology is a two year degree course and aims at providing knowledge about plant diseases and their management. The program plays a vital role in equipping the students with issues relating to crop protection, Students also learn to address environmental issues that arise due to usage of pesticides. The students gain in- depth details about disease causing organisms, factors that are responsible for plant epidemics and the effective management from the pathogens. Technical training would be given to students to gain latest information about uses and effects of pesticides on plants. The course covers topics on pathogens, pests, plant disease resistances, transgenic, biotechnology and genetically modified organisms (GMO).
Eligibility for the Course
The students who have completed 3 year (10+2+3) or four year (10+2+4) year degree course in biological science or agriculture from recognized universities are eligible for the course.

The syllabus covers concepts and classification of causal agents, plants and pathogens, production, liberation and dissemination of inoculums. Pathogen infection, germination and penetration into host, symptoms, growth and reproduction of pathogens in plants. Action of pathogens, factors affecting plant disease outbreak, disease progress, epidemiology, disease resistance principles, parasitism , preventive measures, biotechnology, molecular techniques, virology, bacteriology mycology, field experimentation, medicinal and ornamental plants, spices, statistics, harvesting marketing, seed technology, horticulture, agricultural economics and extensions etc.
