Introduction
Sometime Geoengineering is also referred as Climate engineering. It is actually a combination of different related disciplines like civil engineering, earth sciences, mining engineering, petroleum engineering, etc. Candidates learn about Engineering geology and different applications of geological sciences in technical field. Study about behavior of earth materials, application of geophysics and engineering designs of tunnels,, mines, etc are also included in the course.
Eligibility
M.Phil. requires Post Graduate candidates and for this particular case, Post Graduates in the field of Geology, Earth Science or any other related stream are eligible for this course. The minimum qualifying marks may vary from one institute to another and need to be checked before submission of application.
Admission Procedure
For most the institutes, the admission is on direct or merit basis where either seats are offered on first cum first serve basis or the names get short listed on the basis of grades on Post graduation.
Only few institutes conduct entrance test for the same.
Duration
It is 1 year for regular candidates. It can be 2 years for some institutes.
Further study options
After M.Phil, candidates can go for PhD. (Doctor of Philosophy) in Geoengineering. It is s research based course where candidates get an opportunity to study more about the field of their interest. Other options could be some short duration courses related to Geoengineering.

M.Phil is a combination of Theoretical as well as Practical studies and candidates need to complete a short term project at the end of the course. Topics like Principles of
Remote Sensing, Earth Systems, Principles of Photogrametry and Photo interpretation, etc are important part of this course. The basics like Mathematics and Statistics are also taught in start to make better understanding of candidates.
Other important topics include Geo-Exploration Techniques, Geographic Information Systems, Geo-Engineering Investigations and many other related topics. Some part of Water Resources Evaluation, Urban planning and information systems, Spatial Data Base Handling and GIS Implementing Architectures, Digital Photogrametry and Mapping is also included in the course.
The last semester includes research based project which needs t be completed in short duration.
