Introduction
M.Tech is a Masters course in the field of Technology with a full form as 'Masters of Technology'. The field of Petroleum Technology completely deals with study about hydrocarbons, crude oil, natural gas, their products, etc. Candidates learn about discovery of natural sources of fuel, related activities, examination of their natural characteristics, and many more. They also learn about designing and development of advanced machinery for the purpose of extraction and processing of natural fuel and petroleum. Different sections of course cover study about Petroleum geology, production technology, drilling technology, exploration methods, refining technology, etc.
Admission Procedure
The admission is done through Entrance examinations. These can be at institute level, state level and even national level. Interested candidates can submit application forms for any of these examinations and can secure their seats for course by performing well in the same.
Eligibility
Graduates from the field of Technology (B.E. or B.Tech.) are eligible for this course. The minimum qualifying marks are 60% or more as aggregate for most of the reputed institutes.
Duration
The duration is 2 years for this course. These 2 years are combination of theory classes and practical sessions. The syllabus is divided into 4 parts to be taught in 4 semesters and candidates are supposed to pass each semester separately.
Further Study options
Candidates can enroll themselves for PhD after completion of their M.Tech in Petroleum technology. PhD. will allow them to conduct research on the selected topic of their interest from their own field. PhD will increase their job prospects for sure.
Course highlights
The course includes study about Advanced Numerical Methods and computer programming as a brush up topic. The initial part of course also includes study about Advanced Drilling and Natural gas Engineering, Reservoir Engineering and Hydrocarbon Exploration Techniques. Candidates also learn about advanced instrumentation and control, Surface Production Engineering, Formation Evaluation, Petroleum Production Engineering and many more during later phase of the course. The lab sessions are there to learn about Numerical methods, computer programming, petroleum engineering, etc through experimental handling.
The last part of the course includes a short term industrial training where candidates get chance to learn about their professional life they will be having after completion of this course. They also learn about some practical facts which theory classes cannot teach.
