Introduction
Masters of Science is a post graduation degree in the field of Science and the specialization of Applied Geology deals with study about Earth, its shape, various changes, forms, etc. Candidates study about Structural Geology, Physical Geology, Engineering Geology, Geo-morphology and many more such topics. Study about contaminated land ground investigation through high technical instruments is also done in this course.
The course has different dimensions like Paleontology, Sedimentary Petrology, Metamorphic Petrology, Igneous Petrology, Thermodynamics, Crystal Optics, Ore Petrology, etc.
Eligibility
Candidates holding Graduation degree from any of the reputed or affiliated institutes are eligible for this course. The specialization of Geology, Earth Science or any related subjects are preferred. The minimum qualifying marks varies from one institute to another and need to be checked before submission of application.
Duration
It is having 2 years duration on regular basis and these 2 years are divided into 4 equal semesters; each having 6 months duration.
Admission Procedure
Admissions are direct or on merit basis for most of the institutes and they short list the candidates on first come first serve basis or scores basis respectively. Only some reputed institute conduct entrance examination for the same and in that case, candidates need to perform well in that to secure their seats for course.
Further Study options
After completion of M.Sc. in Applied Geology, candidates can enroll themselves for M.Phil and PhD. These are advanced research based courses where candidates learn the subject through research and broaden his or her job prospects.
