Introduction
B.E. is abbreviated form of Bachelor of Engineering which is a technical course with various specializations. Hydraulic Engineering is one of them and is related from the civil branch of engineering. Please note that it is not at all related to Hydrologic engineering and both are completely separate branches. Hydraulic Engineering deals with flow and conveyance of fluids and the course teaches about use of gravity in movement of the fluids like water and sewage. This study helps candidates to understand the construction of channels, bridges, canals, dams, etc.
Eligibility
A candidate who has done his or he 12th from recognized or affiliated board with Science specialization is eligible for this course. The prior knowledge of mathematics and physics is required for this course. The minimum qualifying marks may vary from one institute to another.
Duration
Just like other technical graduation degrees, it is also having 4 years duration. These 4 years are equivalent to 8 semesters.

B.E. is considered as a professional course and it is easy to get job after this but interested candidates can pursue M.E. that is Masters of Engineering in Hydraulic branch. After that, PhD is again an open option for these candidates.
Course highlights
Hydraulic Engineering is a sub division of Civil Engineering, hence the course starts with the basics of civil engineering and fluid mechanics. Candidates then learn about the principles of fluid mechanics and their application is solving the problems related to storage, collection, transport, measurement, regulation and efficient use of fluids including water. Candidates also learn about transport of sediment by the river, occurrence of scour and deposition and interaction of the water with its alluvial boundary.
Details about conceptual designs for spillways, outlet works for dams, canals, culverts for highways, etc are also taught in this course. The main part of course includes study about cooling-water facilities for thermal power plants, different structures for irrigation projects, etc.

These candidates work with Civil engineers in project related to design dams, canals, bridges, drainage systems and levees. They can also work in companies as a consultant for providing information related to company's interactions with fluids.
