Introduction

Course highlights

Hydraulic Engineering is a sub division of Civil Engineering, hence the course starts with the basics of civil engineering and fluid mechanics. Candidates then learn about the principles of fluid mechanics and their application is solving the problems related to storage, collection, transport, measurement, regulation and efficient use of fluids including water. Candidates also learn about transport of sediment by the river, occurrence of scour and deposition and interaction of the water with its alluvial boundary.
Details about conceptual designs for spillways, outlet works for dams, canals, culverts for highways, etc are also taught in this course. The main part of course includes study about cooling-water facilities for thermal power plants, different structures for irrigation projects, etc.
