Introduction
M.Pharma is a Masters degree in the field of Pharmacy. The specialization of Formulation Technology (Ayu) deals with study about all the techniques required to produce medicines from botanical material. It is a combination of Science, Pharmacy and pharmacology. Candidates learn about all the techniques for production, analysis, quality assessment and many more. As the course includes multiple lab sessions, it is not available in correspondence mode and candidates need to pursue it as their regular course only.
Job aspects
This course has vast job scope and candidates can work in teaching institutions, hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical industries, Firms for herbal products and many more. They can start their own clinic for herbal medicine in association of doctor, their own tuition classes, etc. There are some government funded projects also available for these candidates and they can join as project assistant.
Eligibility
Graduate candidates with B.Pharma from any recognized institute are eligible for this course. Other equivalent graduation degrees are also considered by some institutes for admission in M.Pharma. These can be B.Sc. Science, B.Sc. in chemistry, etc. The minimum qualifying mark should be equal to or more than 55%.
Admission Procedure
For admission in M.Pharma in any reputed institute, candidates need to appear and perform well in GATE entrance examination. There are some other state level entrance examinations also which a candidate can consider for admission. Some institutes also conduct their own examination for admission in M.Pharma.
Duration
The duration is 2 years as we know for most of the post graduation/ Masters degree courses. These 2 years are divided into 4 semesters and each semester has it's own pre- defined course to be completed. Candidates are required to clear each semester separately for complete the course successfully.
Further Study options
Once the M.Pharma is completed, candidates are eligible for good paying jobs. If a candidate wants to pursue study further, PhD is the option for him/ her. It is a research based course with not strict time period. This degree opens the door to have scientific career in future.
Course highlights
The course starts with basics analytical techniques, Drug evaluation methods, various Drug delivery systems, etc. Candidates also learn about Pharmacokinetics and bio-pharmaceutics. The course also teaches about Quality assurance, Process validation, GMP, production technology and management.
The last part of the course includes dissertation or short term project. During this project, candidates get hands on experience of professional work in industries and learn what they have read theoretically during the course.
